The default UI looks quite crappy, but there have been a couple of alternatives. Most of them are shitty, but some are rather good. If neither of them work on your machine and give you decent performance, even if you have nothing else installed, then, and only then, you should proceed with this section of the guide. Basically, what you can try, even if Hook4 and Hook3 do not work for you, are the previous Hook versions, or even ENB. However, none of these support bumpmaps, which means you will miss out a lot.
