The book is definitely not worth the price. One will not enjoy even if it's freely available. In my years of reading books, I never rated any book below 3 stars. Madelynn Smith. Awful I found this book via Facebook advertising. I never write reviews. This time I felt compelled to save someone the trouble of reading it.

Poorly written, unnecessary back and forth drama, plot twist that a child could see coming and so unbelievable as to be laughable. There were a few elements that could have made for a decent story only the author seemed to miss them all in favour of more advance and retreat rubbish that has you just wishing it was over already.

She was irritatingly clueless and yet stubborn and strong willed. Save me from these tired tropes please! Overall, I gave it once star, it it deserved only half. The overall concept for the book is relatively interesting, which is the only reason I'm willing to give it two stars instead of just one. The parts that I'm not comfortable with and, in fact, hate are where Demitrey abuses Adelina.

I don't care what his reasons were which are addressed later in the book ; he could've been cold and standoffish towards her instead of physically and verbally abusing her.

If this was, in fact, the "edited" version, I think Ms. Adrien needs to find a new and significantly better editor. All in all, I would NOT recommend purchasing this book. If you can get it for free, it might be worth a read - although that also depends on if you're OCD like me when it comes to grammar. Book is not finished I thought the book would have finished the story but paying 5. When I start reading a book I like to complete it.

It should have been indicated on amazon that this book is the first part of a series or something. Historian Stephanie E. Because women typically inherited more slaves than land, enslaved people were often their primary source of wealth.

White women actively participated in the slave market, profited from it, and used it for economic and social empowerment. Andrea Alciati's Emblematum Liber was an essential work for every writer, artist and scholar in post-medieval Europe. First published in , this illustrated book was a collection of emblems, each consisting of a motto or proverb, a typically enigmatic illustration, and a short explanation.

Most of the emblems had symbolic and moral applications. Scholars depended on Alciati's book to interpret contemporary art and literature, while writers and artists turned to it to invest their work with an understood didactic sense. This new edition of the Emblematum Liber includes the original Latin texts, highly readable English translations, and the illustrations belonging to each of the emblems. The editor's introduction explains both the importance and the cultural contexts of Alciati's book, as well as its innumerable artistic applications.

For instance, close study of the emblems reveals--to cite only two examples--why statues of lions are traditionally placed before government buildings, and what underlying political message was conveyed by innumerable equestrian portraits during the Baroque era. The collection includes as an appendix the formerly suppressed emblem, "Adversus Naturam Peccantes," accompanied by a translation of the learned commentary applied to it by Johann Thuilius in An extensive bibliography points the student to scholarly research specifically dealing with artistic applications of Alciati's emblems.

Altogether, this new edition of Alciati's seminal work is an essential tool for modern students of the liberal arts. Hired to catalog the Sullivan House library, Elizabeth Brown is in her element.
